old friend of my dad

momi sent me a presentation from a few days ago made by an old friend of my mom and dad, dr. chu. it was really sweet that he included a picture of me, dadi and momi from a long time ago (i was still a little baby!) and he dedicated his presentation to dadi. notice momi had such a cute dress - i would totally wear it today. my dad's shirt is really cool too. even their glasses are really hip. haha.

even though it's been almost two and a half years since my dad passed, he still makes an impact on everyone's lives everyday. sometimes i feel like he is still alive and i will see him soon. all my current life experiences still have his influence on them - like rich may go to shenzhen for a business trip soon, and i told him how i've been there many times since dadi used to work there too. and there are so many restaurants and activities in new york that dadi either took me or i know it would be something he would enjoy with me.

my professor was talking about the squeegee people that used to line up around the holland tunnel back in the day who would "clean" you car window and force you to pay them for it, and it totally brought me back to when i was little and sat in the back of our car, coming into manhattan to get takeout from chinatown, and my mom and dad in the front trying to prevent the squeegee people from cleaning our windows. they would turn on the windshield wipers to signal that they didn't want them to come over. and we would laugh at how silly it was. it's just such a random funny memory. i really miss those day sometimes...

After going to the CUNY TSA dinner party, all those olden times seem to come back to me. The memory is so vivid that CUNY TSA Ph.D students wanted dadi to go back to be chair of that party again because so many years after he found it there was still so many barriers to be overcomed. That time I, Aunti, Uncle and so many friends all devoted for it and we never regret even sometimes the activities really got us tired. We all feel happy and proud to help so many new students(including President Ma who was picked up from JFK by Dadi:) Now I know this group is till existing well under the capable chair Ms. Wang's management, I feel good and I know dadi feel great too, of course he will bless all.

I am trying to recall where was this picture taken? Who took it? Maybe Prof. Chu? But it doesn't matter even I can not remember where it was taken, I always remember Dadi has so many good friends like Prof. Chu. When dadi passed away, Prof. Chu emailed me to say only time can heal the wound, because he knows how painful it is. Ya! When his wife passed away he was so painful, but he had to live for his 5 years old boy:The picture is still so vivid that when you were about 9 the cute 5 years old little boy sat by you on a couch (I don't remember where it was either.)and you were talking to him tenderly. I am glad now you both grow up so well and we have the chance to see him in NYC. The best thing is Prof. Chu has great wife and two more kids, they are so nice too. Oh! You know our president respects prof. Chu so much because they both graduated from Da-Kang Univ. , but Prof. Chu did many years earlier than our president and now works for famous Cornell University.
