dadi's chinese lunar birthday

dadi always said he had two birthdays - his american birthday and his chinese (lunar) birthday. apparently, back when he was born in china, they didn't keep track of birth date records very well - and to add to the confusion, there was a lunar calendar which didn't match the Western calendar. so when his family came to taiwan, his birthday was recorded as Dec 3rd on the Western calendar, but his birthday was really on Dec 3rd of the lunar calendar! and each year, the Western calendar and the lunar calendar don't correspond - it changes from year to year.

anyhow, we figured out this year that Dec 3rd on the lunar calendar corresponds to Jan 21st on the Western calendar. so we can celebrate my dadi's birthday yet again, just like he loves.

he never forgot my birthday, but sometimes i would forget his. so now, dadi, we will celebrate BOTH your chinese and american birthdays every year to make up for all the times i forgot your birthday, ok? i love you.
