old friend of my dad

momi sent me a presentation from a few days ago made by an old friend of my mom and dad, dr. chu. it was really sweet that he included a picture of me, dadi and momi from a long time ago (i was still a little baby!) and he dedicated his presentation to dadi. notice momi had such a cute dress - i would totally wear it today. my dad's shirt is really cool too. even their glasses are really hip. haha.

even though it's been almost two and a half years since my dad passed, he still makes an impact on everyone's lives everyday. sometimes i feel like he is still alive and i will see him soon. all my current life experiences still have his influence on them - like rich may go to shenzhen for a business trip soon, and i told him how i've been there many times since dadi used to work there too. and there are so many restaurants and activities in new york that dadi either took me or i know it would be something he would enjoy with me.

my professor was talking about the squeegee people that used to line up around the holland tunnel back in the day who would "clean" you car window and force you to pay them for it, and it totally brought me back to when i was little and sat in the back of our car, coming into manhattan to get takeout from chinatown, and my mom and dad in the front trying to prevent the squeegee people from cleaning our windows. they would turn on the windshield wipers to signal that they didn't want them to come over. and we would laugh at how silly it was. it's just such a random funny memory. i really miss those day sometimes...
