八八节快了 dadi!

Hi dadi, Hope you are having a wonderful Chinese father's day in heaven! You will be a granddaddy soon with a baby granddaughter to come in Shanghai. I wish you could be here to play and take care of her (just like you took care of me when i was a little girl) but I know you will watch over her and love her from where you are... We will tell her lots of stories about you and show her lots of pictures of you so she will know you as her granddaddy.

Here is a message from momi (B.I.) for you too - Baba: It's going to be Chinese 88 date of 2012, time flies while life keeps going on and sustains. In heaven you must have known Cheryl is going to give us grandchild soon. You always said you wanted to take care of your grandchild for her. The baby is going to be born in Shang-Hai where is your favorite place for retirement(but now after my retirement I can no longer afford to buy a comfortable living place there due to the highly unreasonable price, so can only pass and stay for short period in the big Apt. which Cheryl rented :). Please bless Cheryl give birth a healthy and happy child (some times I am imaging could be you from heaven?)

Love you always,
L.A. ;-)

Dear dadi from Shanghai

Hi from Shanghai dadi! We're here now, just like you always said we would eventually end up. So many new things to learn from living in China and I know if you were here, you would give me lots of good advice (especially since you lived in China for work too). I miss all your good advice. And I know if you came here to visit, you would find and try all the good restaurants near us so you can take me to them too.

I now realize that my love for finding and exploring restaurants must come from you! Now that I think back, I always remember you finding restaurants for us to try even when I was little, whether we were in NJ, Hsinchu, Taipei, HK, China, California, everywhere. I'm like that too! And I love recommending places to eat, just like you always did. Funny how I see more of your traits in me all the time.

I saw Nai-Nai and all the uncles, aunts, cousins in LA before we moved to Shanghai... it was really nice to see your big family. They are so funny and cute. I know they all miss you like me and momi do too. Nai-Nai always says she misses you a lot.

Love,
L.A. ;-)

Happy Birthday and In Remembrance

Dear Dadi,

I want to wish you a happy birthday, you would be 65 years old this year. It's been 5 years since I've seen you but I still think about you everyday, I feel your influence and spirit around me everyday. Next year we may be moving to Shanghai which is exactly what you always thought would happen eventually. How did you know??

It is almost Christmas and I had this memory of when you were working in Shenzhen and momi and I would visit you there -- one time we went to your company's holiday party and taught them all how to sing American Christmas songs. And the funniest part was they all sung the songs in funny accents, like "Jingulu Bellus, Jingulu Bellus..." I remember you, me and momi laughed about that a lot!

Love you dadi. Miss you always!

Happy Chinese Father's Day and Memories

Hi dadi - happy (one day late) chinese ba ba day! Hope you are having a great day and I'm sure you are watching over us...

I thought of 2 memories (one of them I talked about with momi when we drove in NJ this weekend) --

1. First one is, when I was in middle school in Taiwan, and you went with me to downtown Hsinchu to buy bicycles. I remember we each bought a bike, and then we rode our bikes together int he crazy Taiwan traffic, all the way back from downtown Hsinchu to our house in Science Based Park. I still wonder how we got our car back? I can't remember if momi drove with us back to to pick up the car? It's so funny thinking back to us riding bikes together!

2. Second "memory" which is really momi's memory is when you and momi were driving on Pulaski Skyway when I was still inside of momi's tummy, during winter. Momi said you were going to Aunt and Uncle's wedding in NYC. The road was slippery because of the weather, so you and momi got into a car accident right on the bridge of Pulaski Skyway! Momi said when you guys were about to hit the other car, you said to momi "du-tze, du-tze!" because you wanted her to be careful of me inside her tummy. I guess I was ok because I'm here now. :) Momi said your car had to be towed away and you had to take the bus/train to Aunt's wedding. I like to imagine you and momi together at around the same age as me now (early 30s). It's so interesting to imagine you both around the same age as me!

Anyway, I just wanted to say something on your blog... it's been a while because work has been toooooo busy. But I always feel your blessings on me and momi, whenever good things happen when I think of you. I love you dadi and still miss you very much!

just hello

hi dadi, just wanted to say hello and tell you that i still miss you everyday. i've been so busy with work that i haven't had time to update the blog but i'm sure you hear my thoughts in my head all the time.

i was recently thinking about how you once took me and my friends into the city for my birthday (i think i was 7 years old) and we had so much fun. you took us to FAO Schwartz and Central Park! so whenever i walk around 59th street, i think of you.

also i remember you and momi telling me the story of how momi put my in the backseat of the car when i was a little baby, and then when she closed the door, you drove away by mistake! you thought she was already in the car. then you finally realized she was missing and turned back. funny.

then there are more recent times, like when i lived in SF for the summer and you and momi came to visit. and then you found out my landlord was your friend from before (because you always know so many people) and because you went to go talk to him, he gave me my deposit back earlier (or something like that). somehow you always know so many people or find ways to become friends with everyone around you, because you are always so funny and friendly and nice to them. i like to think that i learned that from you too!

i'll be traveling back to taiwan in May so i will come visit your resting place in bali. until then, you are in my thoughts literally everyday so you can just read my mind! :)

love you dadi and always will.

A Video of Dadi

I found our old camcorder the other day and there were videos of dadi on there from our trip to Scottsdale together! Very excited to find these.

Here is my favorite video of dadi, he's talking about a huge pizza. I love that he can still make me smile and laugh when I see this video.

Love you dadi and miss you so much. Hope you are eating as many huge pizzas as you want whereever you are!
